Smoothie Businesses Shake it Up Across Kansas City

Some of the most popular smoothie places around town don’t measure up to their competitors.

Smoothie King

13440 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66213

From “Fitness” blends to “Take a Break Blends,” Smoothie King offers a wide variety of drinks. Smoothie King’s best seller, known as the “angel food” smoothie, is a mix of strawberries, bananas, non-fat milk, vanilla flavoring and turbinado. This delicious drink is a simple smoothie perfect for all fruit lovers. Smoothie King is also known for their “Caribbean Way” smoothie. Although it’s similar to “Angel Food,” “Caribbean Way” takes a tropical twist by adding papaya juice blend to the strawberry banana mix. For customers interested in a healthier drink, Smoothie King offers the “Gladiator” smoothie. Made from a vanilla gladiator protein base, customers are then given the option of adding two fruits to create their own drink however they feel fit.

Smoothie King offers drinks in 20 ounce, 32 oz and 40 oz quantities. Depending on the type of smoothie, customers will pay around $4.69 for a small, $6.49 for a medium, or $7.99 for a large. However, the best part about Smoothie King is their five dollar Friday deal which allows customers to pay five dollars for a medium size smoothie every Friday. For customers looking for a bargain and tasty strawberry banana smoothies, Smoothie King will not disappoint.

Robeks

8154 W 135th St, Overland Park, KS 66223

The strawberry banana smoothie at Robeks is nothing special. Compared to other local smoothie businesses, such as Smoothie King, Juice Shop and t.Loft, the price is nearly equal but the flavor doesn’t compare. At Robeks, the cost for smoothies averages around $4.69 for a small, $5.29 for a medium and $6.39 for a large. With costs being similar to better local smoothie businesses, Robeks isn’t the best place to go.

Although the smoothie drinks aren’t amazing, Robeks offers smoothie bowls, unlike the other previously mentioned smoothie businesses. The best seller smoothie bowl, acai strawberry berry, consists of acai, banana, blueberries, strawberries, and vanilla almond milk blended together topped with fresh banana, strawberries, blueberries, granola, and raw honey. For customers looking for a unique way for their smoothie to be served, smoothie bowls at Robeks may be something to consider.

t.Loft

5225 W 116th Pl, Leawood, KS 66211

T.Loft offers a limited selection of smoothies. The Blue Maui, t.Loft’s best selling smoothie, is a mix of pineapple, blueberries, apple, spinach and coconut water. Between t.Loft, Smoothie King, Robeks, Juice Stop, t.Loft’s ingredients taste the freshest. T.loft charges $5 for a small smoothie, $6 for a medium, and $8 for a large. Compared to the other smoothie bars, t.Loft focuses the most on using pure products in their foods. Aside from smoothies, t.Loft is better known for selling pure juices, protein balls, and protein shakes.

For customers looking for a meal to go along with their smoothie, t.Loft is a great place to go. Unlike other local smoothie bars, t.Loft sells meal bowls and salads to go along with their drink items. The environment at t.Loft is a more casual sit down juice bar, and makes for the perfect after school hang out. Not only does t.Loft offer delicious smoothies, but they exhibit a comfortable setting with healthy food and drink choices.

Juice Stop

8925 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS 66212

Juice Stop specializes in custom made smoothies. They offer a wide variety of fruits, proteins and energy blends to satisfy their customers. Juice Stop’s best seller, “America’s Cup,” is a mix of strawberry juice, yogurt, bananas and strawberries. This particular strawberry banana smoothie is better than that of Robeks, but not as tasty as “Angel Food” from Smoothie King. Juice Stop sells their drinks in 12 oz and 24 oz quantities. The cost for a small is $3.95 and $5 for a large. Juice Stop’s prices are slightly cheaper than those of Smoothie King, Robeks and t.Loft, but the actual taste isn’t as delicious.

The juices and smoothies at Juice Stop are cold pressed, meaning their products are pressed together without any abrasive heat exchange. As a result, all the living enzymes, vitamins and nutrients are still intact, rather than being burnt up when they are blended together. Cold pressed drinks are the optimal way for customers to get their vitamins and minerals in liquid form. This is a unique feature to Juice Stop that customers won’t find at other local smoothie bars. Juice Stop is the perfect place for smoothie lovers who want a drink filled with more natural minerals and vitamins.
