As single State burger is served on black and white plaid paper at Burger State.

Recently opened, Burger State located in South Waldo off Wornall, presents a quick and modern twist on the American experience. A classic American burger served in a timely manner and at affordable prices make this buzzing new restaurant worth a try, but maybe only once.

Customers are immediately greeted by the friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Exposed black ceilings and accented walls make this local restaurant extremely casual and comfortable. Meals are served in a red basket on black and white paper, which is a very cute and easy touch.

Burger State is a family-owned restaurant that serves locally-farmed delicious beef. The local theme continues to the décor with numerous pieces of Kansas City art work decorating the walls. The pieces include state signs, maps, and local KC artwork.

While the food is nothing to complain about, it is certainly nothing to rave. The burgers are incredibly decent, better than a fast food Mcdonald’s burger, but not outstanding and hardly impressive. The fine, flimsy patty that comes out can hardly compare to the large, juicy burger that is pictured on the front of their website.

However, given the affordable prices, Burger State is a suitable option for anyone looking for a cheap burger and fries in a hurry. It is also a quick five minute drive from campus making it the perfect place for hungry low-budget seniors during checkout, but beware the location is not obvious so it can be difficult to find and surrounding buildings are not quite as inviting.

In addition to an assortment of burger options, Burger State offers salads and chilis, ranging in price from $5 to $11, chicken sandwiches starting at $7, $5 hotdogs, and fish tacos for $11. For those looking for alternative diet options, Burger State has those covered as well from paleo plates, turkey burgers, and vegetarian black bean burgers. Their menu is sure to please anyone.
