The People Have Spoken!

The 2019 People’s Choice Awards was a night of honoring America’s choice celebrities voted by yours truly, the audience.

The People’s Choice Awards is easily one of the top award shows for one reason, the awards are based on the audience’s votes. The entertainment industry is all about the audience and it would not be possible if it wasn’t for us, the viewers. The event aired live Nov. 11 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, honoring celebrities in 43 different categories including TV, movies, music and pop culture.

From beginning to end, the show was smooth sailing. The opening montage included clips from any and every hit from this year’s shows, movies and iconic moments. Following the montage, Robert Downey Jr. graced the audience with a humbling opening speech that set the tone for the evening. Before he presented the first award, Downey gave a short tribute to his late character Iron Man by thanking his fans for the endless love and support in which he later reiterated in his acceptance speech for Male Movie Star, which he lovingly dedicated to Stan Lee.

Downey presented the first award of the night to Kevin Hart for The Comedy Act. It was a welcoming comeback for Hart after last year’s Academy Awards turn over. It was his first appearance after his life-threatening car accident in September.

The remaining awards this year were well rounded and spot-on except for one straggler. Coming as a shock, the choice for Comedy Movie Star was awarded to Noah Centineo for his role in “Perfect Date.” Centineo surpassed Hart, Adam Sandler, Mindy Kaling and others—all high-status comics.

The night’s most honorable nominees took home the three major awards People’s Fashion Icon, People’s Icon and People’s Champion. Singer and designer Gwen Stefani received the award for People’s Fashion Icon for her unique style and take on fashion. The People’s Icon Award, presented by Adam Sandler was awarded to Jennifer Aniston. Sandler honored Aniston in a heartwarming speech that touched the crowd, followed by a montage of Aniston’s most memorable roles.

The most noteworthy award and speech of the night came from The People’s Champion, Pink. The award was given based on her charitable contributions to organizations like Autism Speaks, the Human Rights Campaign and Planned Parenthood according to eonline. Pink ended her speech with her words of wisdom, “I don’t care about your politics I care about your kids.”

The People’s choice awards not only gives a voice to the audience, but it gives us a chance to recognize the celebrated entertainers and honorable actions. The 2019 awards did fans justice by keeping the controversy level at a low and sticking to the basics of a classic award show.
