D23 Expo Recap

Disney is venturing into a whole new world. At the D23 Expo, Disney unveiled all of their upcoming films, newest projects, and changes to the parks. D23 is the official fan club for Disney, and holds an expo annually where all of the new projects are revealed to the public.

There have been some long awaited live action remakes of  classic Disney films. The Little Mermaid is one of those films that has been under production, and the trailer was released at the D23 Expo.The newest live action film, stars Halley Berry, which has stirred up a great deal of controversy. In the animated version of The Little Mermaid, Ariel has a light skin-tone with red hair and some people have taken to the internet to voice their opinions on the cast, unhappy that a traditionally white princess is being played by a person of color. However, young black girls are ecstatic to see Bailey play the mermaid princess, finally seeing someone who looks like them portraying a fan favorite character. However theres also people who are upset that the actress who plays Ariel is not white.

Disney+ will become home to many anticipated sequels in the coming months.. Peter and Wendy, the live action remake of the classic Peter Pan, said to be released someone time in 2023.Disney+ will become home to many anticipated sequels in the coming months. The first trailers for Disenchanted, the sequel for Enchanted, were shown at D23 and the movie is set to be released on Nov. 24, 2022.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is also made some exciting announcements concerning upcoming movies and shows. Black Panther:Wakanda Forever will follow new leaders as they protect Wakanda from threats after the death of their leader T’Challa. It’s said to release on November 11, 2022 in theaters. Captain America: New World Order is another crowd appealing film set to release, in May of 2024 starring Anthony Mackie as Captain America.

Animated Disney films continue to be crowd favorites, with new and innovative stories coming fresh off the drawing board. Wish will be the next big feature film. Set in a kingdom where every wish comes true, the newest Disney creation follows 17 year old, Asha, voiced by Arianna DeBose. A sequel to the beloved Inside Out is currently planned to release in summer of 2024.

With the holidays quickly approaching, look out for new Disney holiday content. Pentatonix: Around the World for the Holidays has no exact release date. gives fans a behind the scenes look of how this pop group overcomes the struggles of finding inspiration for their fan favorite holiday albums.. Hip-Hop fans will be excited to see the Nut Cracker turned into The Hip-Hop Nut-Cracker. A new version which will bring you the family classic with an innovative twist. 

14 new Disney Legends were inducted at this year’s expo: a prestigious title held by few. The late Chadwick Boseman was honored for his amazing writing, acting, directing and activism. Other inductees include: Anthony Anderson, Kristen Bell, Rob’T Coltrin, Patrick Dempsey, Robert Price “Bob” Foster, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff, Don Hahn, Doris Hardoon, Idina Menzel, Chris Monthan, Ellen Pompeo, Tracee Ellis Ross. All who have devoted countless hours and lots of effort into the Disney company.
