Seniors Danielle Mollerus and Lauren Dwyer block the ball to earn a point against the Barstow Knights.

Varsity Volleyball Coach Robert Lampen looks forward to the upcoming season and prepares his players by training them to get to where they need to be. With eight volleyball seniors graduating last year, the team has added eight new players, resulting in a total of 11.

“It might take longer to get where they need to be, but the girls are taking good strides to get there,” Lampen said.

Junior Alli Hunt says that the team has been practicing since the summer, and she believes that although they have a team with many new players, they all get along very well. Hunt awaits the upcoming season and the time that she will get to spend with her teammates.

“I think that since we have practiced so much together we are getting used to playing as a team and we will play better together during games,” Hunt said.

Sion won the match in only two sets [in the season opener] against Barstow on Wednesday Aug. 26 earning a total of 51 points to 44 points. While the first set was a close game, Sion breezed through set two. The game was very captivating according to Tebbe.

“It was a very exciting and fast paced game. The whole crowd was very into it, including me,” varsity team manager Mia Tebbe said.

Lampen has high hopes for his team full of new players. As the new volleyball season goes on, Coach Lampen looks forward to the season with his new team.

“Since the team is younger, I look forward to molding the younger players into stronger caliber varsity players,”  Lampen said.
