The Independent Schools Association of the Central States visits the high school and the grade school every seven years because of a seven year renewal plan.

Representatives from the Independent Schools Association of the Central States will be visiting Sunday, April 2 through Wednesday, April 4 to evaluate and consider a renewal of a fully accredited member status for both campuses of the school. The last time ISACS visited the grade school and the high school was in 2010 and both campuses are on a seven year renewal plan. The only other private high school members of ISACS in Kansas City are the Barstow School and the Pembroke Hill School.

“They come from a place of support and encouragement, so hopefully no one views this as an intimidating or ominous process,” English teacher Casey Engel said.

According to the ISACS website, schools under accreditation renewal evaluation must meet certain standards, like constant school improvement and completed financial audits. Representatives sit in on classes and observe the school during a normal school day. According to Assistant High School Division Head for Student Life Fran Koehler, the ISACS educators will be talking with staff and administrators throughout the school day.

“The goal is that they see every teacher in action,” Assistant High School Division Head for Curriculum and Instruction Ellen Carmody said.

ISACS will be visiting both the grade school and the high school due to having one accreditation for both campuses. Along with ISACS, Sion is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and the National Catholic Educational Association.
