Sophomore Kate Vankeirsbilck hosted a lemonade sale for her club, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, at the Rockhurst football game Oct. 19.

The table was set up near the front entrance and they sold lemonade and yellow scrunchies to raise money for the foundation. Vankeirsbilck also had younger helpers that stood in the common area and asked people if they would help support cancer research.

“We’ve raised a lot more money than I thought we would because I figured it’s mostly just like high school students that don’t have money but we’re actually doing really well,” Vankeirsbilck said. “I think we raised at least like hundred dollars, maybe more.”

Alex’s Lemonade Stand is a foundation that was created to support childhood cancer research. It was started by a little girl named Alex Scott who had cancer and her goal was to raise a million dollars for Childhood Cancer Research. She accomplished her goal with the help of Oprah. She died when she was eight years old but the foundation continued to grow. Vankeirsbilck joined the foundation when she was five years old.

“I thought it’d be a good addition for more people to get involved with the foundation and to get more awareness raised for the foundation and the cause,” Vankeirsbilck said.
