The Class of 2023 met at the soccer game versus Lafayette High School April 15 to buy uniforms, check out the Sion Shoppe, meet with their advisors to get their schedules, and meet their new classmates

“I liked getting all my new uniforms and picking my classes,” Incoming freshman Emily Dierks said. “I also got to talk to the cheer coach and meet a few of my classmates.”

The new students also had the opportunity to meet with athletic coaches and club advisors to find ways to get involved at the beginning of the school year. During the soccer game, there was a social for 5th through 8th graders with hotdogs and games for them to mingle with one another.Current student ambassadors were at the event to help at the soccer social and direct new families when buying uniforms and meeting with their advisors. The incoming girls will have more opportunities to meet their fellow classmates before the school year starts, according to Student Ambassadors’ President of 8th Grade Recruitment Colleen Byrne.

“We always have Summer Social Events for the incoming freshman to help then have some familiar faces on the first day of school and mingle with their classmates,” Byrne said.

The incoming class is full of fun personalities and brings a lot of different girls from all over the city, according to Director of High School Admissions Katie Glatz. Though they seem shy right now, she is excited to see how they change over the four years into cool, young women because right now they seem so young. When delivering acceptance signs from Blue Springs to the Legends, she got a grasp for the wide range of girls, coming, from all over the city,  to get a great education and an amazing experience, Glatz said. 

“I think the new student night helped students who were nervous about coming alone or worried about starting a new school,” Glatz said. “I think it helped solidify that it will be okay and a fun experience for them.”

This year has been a crazy year for her first year here at the school, according to Glatz. She is looking forward to sitting down over the summer to regroup and think about what changes need to be made. She feels there is a lot of excitement around the community to recruit which she is thankful for.

“I have more knowledge about what I can and can’t do, so I can plan my attack based on that. I want to improve shadow days, have more events in the community, especially on the Kansas side and find innovative ways to do things by including more student testimonials,” Glatz said. “I want to include more student testimonials; the parents like the academic statistics, but the girls like seeing other girls that remind them of themselves.”
