Sheer was recently diagnosed with stage four urethral cancer in December after being hospitalized for an infection. In support of Sheer, student council organized a get-well video for him and his family.

The student body gathered in the gym Wednesday, Jan. 22 to film a get-well video for Director of Facilities and Operations Andy Sheer.

“I’m glad that the student body could come together and wish for Mr. Sheer to get better,” senior Dana Kalt said. “It meant a lot to me because I’ve known him for a while since I went to Sion lower.”

Sheer was diagnosed with stage four urethral cancer in December after being hospitalized for an infection. In light of his recent diagnosis, student council members seniors Munachi Okuagu and Reilly Jackoboice organized and planned the production of a video wishing him a speedy recovery. Student council invited students and faculty to join in the gym 10 minutes before school Wednesday morning for a school-wide get-well message to add to the video.

“Andy has always been such a kind person, and I couldn’t think of a better way to honor and remind him that we are thinking of him better than a video,” Jackoboice said. “I hope this shows how much we care about and miss him.”

In its completion, the video consisted of various personal messages and anecdotes from students, teachers and staff as well as the school-wide get-well message recorded in the gym. The goal for the video, according to Jackoboice, is to lift Sheer’s and his family’s spirits and let them know Sion is supporting him. Student council advisor Jenny Brown-Howerton said the video made her cry when she watched it.

“It’s really endearing,” Brown-Howerton said. “I really hope it lifts his spirits.”
