After the closing of Tuesday’s polls, former Vice President Joe Biden took Missouri with a total of 43 delegates compared to the 24 taken by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, according to the New York Times.

“I think it’s important for me to take advantage of my voting privilege and it was honestly really fulfilling to do it for the first time,” senior Nora Weir said. 

Along with Missouri, Biden secured Idaho, Michigan and Mississippi Tuesday. The pull from delegates in these states has resulted in Biden leading the Democratic primary by 150 delegates over Sanders.

“I decided to vote because it’s important for everyone to vote and do their civic duty of exercising that right,” senior Lily Henkle said. “It was really exciting getting to vote for the first time, especially in such a big election.”

The next Democratic primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 17 in Arizona, Florida, Illinois and Ohio, according to the New York Times. The Democratic presidential nominee will be selected at the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee July 13-16, according to 270 to Win. 

“It’s important to vote because politics run our lives and even if they don’t directly affect you, it’s important to vote thinking about the people it does strongly affect,” senior Phoebe Mullen said. “I felt as though I finally had a voice in the direction I’d like to see this country move towards.”
