Freshman Megan Propeck took home the State title in the Class 2 Golf Championships Tuesday, Oct. 10 at Sedalia Country Club. Propeck won by two strokes over Amber Louise Wilson of St. Joseph’s Academy.

After day one, Propeck was tied for first with a score of 71, but took the lead after the second day with a combined score of 141. Propeck didn’t realize she won State until her coach told her.

“On [hole] 18 when I finished with a par, my entire team was watching me finish and cheering me on,” Propeck said. “It was a really special moment.”

Propeck previously competed in tournaments throughout the season, often placing and even leading the team, breaking a District record with a score of 307. The second place team at Districts was over 40 shots behind. The team also took first at sectionals with a score of 336.

“She’s a really fun player to watch but she’s also really humble about her game,” senior team member Paige Shankland said.

The team competed in both the team and individual competitions, also placing second in the team standings. Consisting only of underclassmen, all five members of the State team placed in the top 50. Team members were Propeck, sophomores Barbara Mae King and Helen Willis and freshmen Caroline Gioconda and Lia Johnson.

“The golf team had a fantastic season,” Athletic Director Kate Pilgreen said. “They ended in a bang up way and tore it up on their way to state.”
