For the first home game of the season, the soccer team wins against Ursuline Academy, with a score of 3-1.

“The game was good,” sophomore Haley Langle said. “We could’ve done better, but it was our first home game in the heat.”

With this being the beginning of the new season and the fact that the team lost seven seniors last year, there is much to be worked on, Langle said.

“There are so many new faces on the team, with having lost seven starting players last year,” Head Coach Matt Darby said. “Last year’s team, we had so many girls that had played together for so long and I think that focusing on that idea of getting to know each other would help them play better as a team.”

Even though they had lost so many players, the team has worked hard on staying at the same level, according to Darby. The team was winning 2-0 at the half, allowing them to enter the second half with a lead.

“I was really proud of the score in general because our first game we struggled with scoring so it was a pleasant surprise,” junior Rose Orrick said. “We need to keep working hard in practices and be prepared mentally for games.”

Ursuline Academy scored on goalie senior Molly Wagner in the second half making it a sore of 2-1, with 15 minutes left in the game. In the last eight minutes of the game, Langle scored the final shot of the game, making the final score of 3-1.

“I’m really happy about when Annabel and I, made great passes leaving me open to shoot and score,” Langle said.

The team won their first game of the season against Pembroke Hill School scoring 1-0. With this being the team’s second game for the season and first at home game, there are many more games to be played.

“We did well and fought hard,” said Darby. “I’m proud of the new kids. Three to one always feels good.”
