The theater department is putting on the last performance of “Into the Woods” at Avila theater today Jan. 27 at 2:00 p.m. The musical is “Into the Woods” to go along with this year’s arts theme of community.

“We have been having really long rehearsals and drilling the numbers in our head in order to prepare for the shows,” junior Maya Bair said.

The musical intertwines the plots of several well-known fairy tales like “Cinderella,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Rapunzel.” These tales are tied together with a story of a childless baker and his wife on a quest to make a potion for the witch to lift their family’s curse in order for them to get pregnant.

“I’m excited to share the complexity of the story. This show is really like no other, and each character has so many dimensions,” senior Tess Prusa who plays the witch said. “It’s exciting to see how each of those play off one another.”

With it being the last musical for the many seniors in the production, the senior night show last night Jan. 26 was extremely special, according to junior Maya Bair who plays Jack’s mother. Not only were two of the six leads seniors, but senior Elizabeth Ericson also choreographed the entire musical. Three other seniors had parts in the musical and five others worked behind the scenes with props, lights and the sound equipment.

“I’m most excited for stage final production because we all have worked extremely hard to make this the best musical,” sophomore Grace Steyer said. “Into the Woods is so hard especially for high schoolers, but I’m happy to see what it turns out to look like.”

The first performance of “Into the Woods” was Friday, Jan. 25, but there is one more opportunity to see the musical. Today, Jan. 27 is a matinee performance at 2:00 p.m.

“This story really connects to everyone, and you’re bound to laugh, cry, and everything in between,” Prusa said. “Acting is all about sharing stories, and our cast is so excited and ready to share this complex story with everyone.”
