The room is filled with people. Paintings and art projects hang on the walls and are displayed on tables. A large piano sits in one corner, waiting to be used. The place is Studio B, at the Crossroads. The people are Sionians, ready to express their spirit at Sion’s First Fine Arts Spirit Night.
The third spirit night of this year focused on fine arts, took place on February 1, 2013. Students took the opportunity to sing for the crowd. One of these students was junior Anna Hamilton, who took the stage multiple times.
“I performed twice with [Rockhurst junior] Shea McEnerney, once with show choir, once with Choeur de Sion, and once with Tri-M,” Hamilton said.
Although she was singing in front of a large audience, Hamilton said she felt completely at home on the stage.
“I felt super comfortable because of all of the positive support from the Sion audience,” Hamilton said.
While Hamilton represents the performer side of the night, there was also a large number of audience members. Senior Claire Willman was a part of this group.
“I thought the spirit night went well,” Willman said. “I had a lot of fun and it was so awesome to see and hear all of the talent we have at our school.”
The audience was not limited to the high school, with many members of the grade school community attending as well. Both Willman and Hamilton left the night with a positive impression of the night as a success. “
“I think we should do another Sion night like that because I felt like it really illuminated the spirit of Sion,” Hamilton said.
