The Cookie Dough Cafe Captivates Taste Buds

At 7 years old, the smell of chocolate chip cookies waft from the kitchen. I run towards the smell in a daze of giddy delight, tripping over my clumsy feet in the process. Grabbing a step-stool, I take a spoon and grab a bite of coveted cookie dough. I savor a few more spoonfuls, only to hear the yell of my mom echoing behind me.  She reiterates in a cautionary tone the possible detriments of eating raw food that is supposed to be cooked. Her disapproving glance and the small but realistic fear of salmonella poisoning keep me away from the cookie batter for years.

Until now. The Cookie Dough Cafe, a product recently featured on ABC’s show The Shark Tank, is the answer for cookie dough lovers. The Shark Tank, which airs on fridays at 8, is where business entrepreneurs compete for the best product, and after gaining success on the show, The Cookie Dough Cafe products are now being sold in many locations. In Kansas City it is sold at The Fresh Market, an organic grocery store located at 135th and Lamar street.

The product is created specifically to produce gourmet edible cookie dough.  The Cookie Dough Cafe creates the cookie batter without raw eggs, making them perfectly safe to consume unbaked.  It is reasonably priced, starting at just $2 for a small cup of chocolate chip cookie dough.  And the creators, sisters Joan Pacetti and Julia Schmid have created goodness not only in the cookie dough, but also in presentation. The simple but alluring design, complete with tiffany blue accents adds sophistication to the bare plastic cup.

After purchasing the pack of four, I tore off the lid to find enticing chocolate chips spread evenly throughout the cookie dough.  Grabbing a spoonful, I take the first bite to find the sweet faux cookie dough completely appealing.  My first cup lacked the consistency of cookie dough, but I believe that was something to do with the lack of refrigeration on the drive home.  Although the cup is small, only 100 grams I found it completely fulfilling of my cookie dough needs.

If you are a cookie dough lover, The Cookie Dough Cafe may hold the answer to your prayers.  It is easily transported, similar to a cup of yogurt, and the likeness to the cookie dough batter I had as a child is astounding.  The product is impressive and ingenuitive, reducing health risks while providing a tasty dessert.
