Warm decor, cooking fish and the scent of jasmine are all a part of the restaurant Bob Wasabi’s Kitchen. Bob Wasabi’s Kitchen is located on 39th Street in a strip of off the wall shops and interesting food options. This hole-in-the-wall restaurant is directly next to a laundromat and yet it’s still one of the most sought out sushi places in Kansas City.

Bob Wasabi’s seats 15 tables at the most. The majority of people people don’t know about it because it is tucked into a nook on 39th. The layout is pretty simple with mahogany tables and chairs, and a kitchen that can be seen and heard by the entire restaurant. The relaxing atmosphere is emphasized by dim lighting and the smell of jasmine.

The only negative thing about this place is the noise level because there are so many people crammed into a small place, however this only adds to the atmosphere.

Bob Wasabi’s best dishes are the fried sushi, pork dumplings and avocado rolls. The avocado rolls are as simple as their name. They consist of avocado wrapped in seaweed that can be dipped in soy sauce and is a whopping $6. The fried sushi is called a TNT roll; it has spicy tuna, salmon and hamachi rolled in rice and is $15 .

Depending on the meal, Bob Wasabi’s can be somewhat pricey, but what sushi place isn’t? The price range is from $9 to $28 so there is a large price range for customers depending on how much they want to spend. Bob Wasabi’s also has a very good selection of sushi for all tastes. There are more exotic sushi such as octopus and there are some normal sushi with tuna or vegetables.

Bob Wasabi’s Kitchen can be awarded three out of five stars for excellent food and relaxing decor. However the relaxing decor doesn’t quite match the the sound levels. Bob Wasabi’s is worth a visit even just to see the lights and art that is 39th Street, and to eat the best fried sushi that has ever existed.
