Poke Place Prices are Too High
Kansas City’s newest Poke place is perfectly good for what it is, but is overpriced for the meal.
Stepping into Urban Grill and Pokė, customers are immediately greeted with welcoming modern energy. Located at 131st and State Line, Urban Grill and Poke is the best option when craving a new approach to seafood. It’s perfect for senior checkout or for a quick dinner after school as it’s only a few minutes away from campus. However, although it has a nice atmosphere and decent food, if this place were anywhere else it would be squashed and run over by competitors.
Poke has been exploding all over Kansas City with numerous places opening in the past few years. Additionally, the place has a Freezing Moo in the back of it, so if one is craving a both of rolled ice cream and poke, this combines both fads.
When walking in, customers are immediately greeted by the warm, energetic and helpful staff creates warm energy throughout the restaurant. The staff is more than willing to help and have customers explore the food options through samples. They are very considerate considering people may not have been exposed to the foods that are served.
The fish seemed to be good enough, but the chicken was relatively expensive for the quantity and quality. The rest of the components of the dish such as the seaweed salad, the rice, and the other additives were also perfectly fine, but for $9 it was not worth it.
The restaurant serves the food ‘Chipotle’ style which makes it possible to customize the bowl, so each customer can craft their bowl to their taste. The customer begins with a rice base, then picks a protein, either a form of fish, steak or chicken. This is followed by three first additives which create a nice almost side salad, then four additional additives that add to the overall taste then a sauce to top it off. The quality of the food is good, considering the location of the state of Missouri in relation to seafood, it is perfectly adequate quality and is very tasty.
As for the price, a small bowl being $8.95 is perfectly average considering the food. On the other hand, a large bowl being almost $12, is not reasonable. This is not attainable for a majority of high schoolers. For the amount, the price is outrageous. The place thinks more of itself than it is, and if it were anywhere close to the coast it would be immediately squashed by competitors.
Overall, as for the quality of the food, the place is perfectly solid for Kansas City. The price is ridiculous, especially considering what the customer gets. Excluding price, this place is perfectly adequate. The staff and atmosphere begin to make up for the main offense that is the price, which is an ultimate downfall. It is not reasonable to go all the time but if one is in desperate need of a poke Bowl, this place performs as expected.
