To Each Their Bone
The viral “bones or no bones day trend” has taken over TikTok and I’m not sure if that is a good thing.
One 13-year-old pug, Noodle, has taken the internet by storm by predicting how millions of people’s days will go. If Noodle decides to stay sitting up after being coaxed into a sitting position by his owner in the morning that means it is a “bones day” which means that it will be a good day. Conversely, if he decides to plop back down onto his bed then the day is considered to be a “no bones day” and the day is not going to be a productive day and should be used to focus on self-care. It is no wonder why people are so infatuated with Noodle, after all, who doesn’t love a cute, chubby pug?
Johnathan Graziano, @jongraz on TikTok, has accumulated a following of 4.3 million largely due to his pug’s daily premonitions. To say his account has gone viral would be an understatement, his top liked video has 2.4 million likes and the account has accumulated 46.6 million likes overall. Graziano has been determining his daily routine based on Noodle since he first adopted Noodle six years ago, according to CNN. The “bones or no bones day” trend has seemingly permeated almost every aspect of my life from the whiteboard in my AP Calculus class to Snapchat stories, it is almost impossible to go a day without hearing about it.
@jongraz hope you all have the best Monday! 🔮🦴 #nobones #bonesday #pug #noodletok #monday
Although I admit that it is difficult to not get caught up in the “bones or no bones day” craze, I don’t think that it is a good idea to allow one singular 15-second video determine how someone approaches the rest of their day. I appreciate the sentiment, but I think that each person can determine whether their day is a “bones day” or not. Noodle can only determine the fate of his own day and I would urge others to determine their mood of the day themselves. If it is a “no bones day” according to Noodle, 4.3 million people are starting off their day with an unwarranted negative mindset that they won’t get anything done. As human beings, I think that we are all capable of determining how our day goes even if a pug says otherwise. I urge noodle’s fans to not forget the law of attraction that seemingly all of TikTok took part in all summer and remember that mindset matters.
