The Le Journal staff works tirelessly to continue to release well-developed and entertaining media. However like anyone else our staffers enjoy a nice relaxing day when they get to consume the media instead of writing it. Here are some of the staff’s favorite shows and movies they’ve watched recently.

“La Flor Mas Bella”

The most recently released TV show on our list is “La Flor Mas Bella”. This is a 10 episode series created by Netflix. It follows Micah, a confident young woman who knows of her own beauty and talents and now all she has to do is convince everyone else at her high school that she’s as cool as she believes. This show is different from the basic coming of age films that have been released. “Having a curvy, brunette, Mexican protagonist who embraces popular and folkloric traditions and customs, and who also knows she is fabulous and is proud to be all of that, representing so many, it’s the best revolution,” co creator Michelle Rodríguez said.  Although this show is originally written in Spanish and set in Mexico you can watch it on Netflix in English.

“Fast And Furious”

You can’t go wrong with a classic like the “Fast and Furious” films, a saga spanning nine movies with the tenth, “Fast X” set to release May of 2023. The first four movies follow the illegal street racing life across the globe while the latter focus on spies and heists. These are fast-paced action movies perfect for when you’re in the mood to have your adrenaline pumping. These films can be rented on Amazon Prime and are rated PG -13

“Wednesday”

“Wednesday”, the Netflix hit TV show has been a fan favorite among the Le Journal staffers. Following the story of Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) a young slightly psychotic girl who is sent to Nevermore Academy. During her time there Wednesday becomes involved in a murder mystery and works to find the monster killer. This Netflix original comes from the mind of Tim Burton and is rated PG-13.

“Knives Out”

“Knives Out” is a hilarious murder-mystery rated PG-13 that can be watched on Amazon Prime Video, Vudu or Apple TV. Famous detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is anonymously hired to find the killer of a wealthy family’s patriarch who was murdered during a family reunion and each family member has a motive to want him dead.

“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery”

With the success from the film “Knives Out”, a standalone sequel was created and bought by Netflix. Craig reprises his role as Benoit Blanc in this enthralling mystery. A group of friends are all invited to Miles Bron’s elaborate private Greek island where a series of murders ensue. Blanc has joined the group of friends on the island and must solve the case before anyone else dies. 

“Catherine Called Birdy”

“Catherine Called Birdy” is a historical comedy set in the medieval time period. Upon learning their family is struggling with money, 14 year old Catherine’s father makes it his goal to find her a suitor. The headstrong Catherine (Bella Ramsey) does everything in her power to scare off each and every suitor her father finds for her. This story about discovering your worth, love and family can be watched on Amazon Prime.
