The 95th Oscar Awards Ceremony will be held on Sun. March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Ca.. Late night television host Jimmy Kimmel will host the show for a third time; he previously hosted in 2017 and 2018. For those of us watching at home, the Oscars will be broadcasted on ABC at 7 PM CST. Hulu Live TV and YouTube TV will also be streaming the event.

Stephen Spielberg thinks Tom Cruise might have saved the movie business with “Top Gun: Maverick”. The film was 2022’s number one movie and rightfully picked up six nominations in the following categories: Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Original Song, Best Sound, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Visual Effects. Though the movie was highly successful and beloved by fans, it’s up against other big contenders of the night such as “Elvis” and “Avatar: The Way of Water”, meaning that a win is going to be quite the feat.

Baz Luherman’s “Elvis” is nominated for eight awards including Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Film Editing. Leading man Austin Butler is up for Best Actor and due to his recent wins in similar categories at the Golden Globes and the British Film and Television Awards (BAFTAs) is predicted to be the likely winner. Although the biopic film about Elvis Presley was highly successful, similarly to “Top Gun: Maverick”, it’s going to be a close race as it’s nominated alongside “Everything Everywhere All At Once” and “The Banshees Of Inisherin”.

“Everything Everywhere All At Once” has had quite the awards season already, sweeping the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAGs) and the Critics Choice Awards. It’s no surprise that the film has 10 nominations, many of which are in the big ticket categories. And if 10 nominations wasn’t enough, it’s been predicted multiple times to be the winner of Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. The star of the film, Michelle Yeoh is a frontrunner for Best Actress and Ke Huy Quan has been predicted to be the winner of Best Supporting Actor.
Brendan Fraser
Brendan Fraser is nominated for Best Actor for his performance in “The Whale”. In the film Fraser plays Charlie, a morbidly obese English teacher who is trying to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter. Fraser is a frontrunner for the award, recently winning the SAG Award for Male Actor In A Leading Role and the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actor. However his chances of walking away with the Oscar for Best Actor have been hurt by “The Whale” not being nominated for Best Picture.

There’s always one confusing nomination at the Oscars and this year it’s “All Quiet On The Western Front” in the Best Picture category. Heavily inspired by the stories of real German soldiers in World War I, “All Quiet On The Western Front” would be Netflix’s first Best Picture win should it come out on top, an unlikely outcome with the other nominees in the category. The film is also up for eight other awards: Best Cinematography, Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound, Best Production Design, Best Original Score, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best International Feature Film.

The nominations this year are not only stacked, but the list of presenters is as well. Presenters for this year’s Oscar Awards include Florence Pugh, Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Banks, Andrew Garfield, Hugh Grant, and John Cho. There will also be performances from Rihanna (“Lift Me Up”), Lenny Kravitz who will perform during the “In Memoriam” segment, and Sofia Carson and Diane Warren (“Applause” From “Tell It Like A Woman”).
