Jimmy Buffett
Singer Jimmy Buffett died Friday, September 1, at the age of 76. According to his website, he battled skin cancer for years before his death but ultimately passed from Merkel Cell cancer.
Buffett first began his music career in college after noticing a fraternity brother who won the attention of girls by playing guitar.
He released his first record “Down to Earth” in 1970, and is best known for his hit songs “come Monday” and “margaritaville”.
In addition to releasing music, Buffet is a New York Times bestselling author and has appeared in many movies, TV shows and even a Broadway play.
He passed peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends.
Steve Harwell
Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell, aged 56, died from liver failure on September 4.
Harwell formed Smash Mouth in 1994 with Greg Camp, Paul De Lisle and Kevin Coleman. They released their first hit song, “Walkin’ on the Sun’, in 1997.
He ran a disease prevention fund named after his son, Presley, who died from acute lymphoma leukemia at 6 months.
Harwell struggled with alcoholism, and was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and Wernicke encephalopathy in 2013. Both diseases affect speech and memory, and can cause heart failure.
He passed away at home in Boise, Idaho shortly after entering hospice care.
Gary wright
Rock band “Sparkly Tooth” singer and songwriter Gary Wright died at home September 4, aged 80.
Although best known for his song “Dreamweaver”, which gained over 2 million in album sales, Wright also composed for numerous hit movies and TV shows including Disney’s “Toy Story 3”, “Stayin’ Alive” and “Glee”.
According to his website, Wright also participated in two US tours with Jimmy Hendrix and “The Rolling Stones”, and traveled the world to meet and gain inspiration from various artists, most notably in India.
Wright was also in the process of writing an autobiography titled “The Dream Weaver”.
He suffered from Parkinson’s disease and dementia for years before he died.
