In July, “The Barbie Movie,” featuring Margot Robby and Ryan Gosling was released into theaters, and it quickly became the talk of social media. Barbie Land represents a world where women have their power taken from them because of their kindness, but then all the barbies come together in unity and take back what is theirs. The movie covers the struggles of being a woman, and wants to teach young women that they can be anything they want to be.

The Summer I Turned Pretty
Prime Video’s show “The Summer I Turned Pretty” featuring Gavin Casalegno, Lola Tung, and Christopher Briney released its second season in July. Susannah has just passed away, so everyone is trying to figure out how to keep her and her memory alive. This quickly becomes abrupted when the beach house is being put up for sale by Susannah’s sister. While all this is occurring Belly continues falling for both brothers, and is forced to ultimately choose Jeremiah or Conrad.

OPPENHIMER
Another movie released in July was Oppenheimer featuring Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr.. The movie is about the creation of the atomic bomb which was invented by J. Robert Oppenhimer during the Manhattan project. One of the most shocking things for viewers was the length of the movie at 3 hours and 9 seconds, but it still sold out theaters nationwide due to the suspensefulness and anticipation built up throughout the movie.

Never Have I Ever
The Netflix original “Never Have I Ever” featuring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Darren Barnet, and Michael Cimino released its fourth and final season in June. Throughout the show Devi has been trying to deal with her fathers sudden death, and her bumpy high school journey. The fourth season is about her senior year where she finally ends up with her best friend Ben, and tries to get out of difficult situations her short fuse gets her into.

MEG 2: THE TRENCH
5 years after its predecessor, “MEG 3: The Trench War” was released in August featuring Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, and Sienna Guillory. The movie mainly takes place during an expedition to the deep trenches of the ocean where the Megalodon had previously been found. When the scientists’ deep sea excursion takes a turn for the worse, the scientists must outrun, outsmart, and outswim the prehistoric shark.

Good Omens
Douglas Mackinnon’s series “Good Omens” released its second season which featured Jon Hamm, Miranda Richardson, and Michael McKean in July. This season mainly focuses on the character growth and development of Aziraphale and Crowley, and gives them the time they need to help build relationships. This season also dives in heavily to the complexities of good and evil by using the limits of the Christian faith.

THE LITTLE MERMAID
Rob Marshal’s “The Little Mermaid” featuring Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, and Malissa McCarthy started premiering in the theaters this previous May. The movie is about how a mermaid named Ariel went on a hunt for adventure, where she met the love of her life Prince Eric. An evil monster named Ursula gives Ariel a deal so that way she can experience life on land, but then Ursula turns on her and takes away her voice.

Cruel Summer
The show “Cruel Summer” featuring Lexi Underwood, Sadie Stanley, and Griffin Gluck released its second season in June. This season has an entirely new cast and plot that takes place in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. In this season, two girls’ lives, Megan and Isabella, are intertwined when there is a murder in Megan’s small town called Chatham. The two have to set aside their differences, and try to figure out what happened.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3
“Guardians of the Galaxy VOL. 3” featuring Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, and Vin Diesel was released in May, 2023. The Guardians are on a journey to face off against the High Evolutionary while still grieving the loss of Gamora. Peter Quill must get the team to come together and protect the universe, because if they don’t it will lead to the end of the Guardians.
