Lacrosse Team Chemistry Energizes Season’s Spirits
There’s something different about the dynamic of the lacrosse team this year. There is a greater sense of closeness to be felt, a more visible drive. They are playing, as Kanye West would say, harder, faster and stronger. And they are winning. Maybe it’s something in the water; or maybe it is simply the fact that this team is closer than it’s ever been, according to senior Mary Beth Ferber.
“We know that we can rely on each other a lot more,” Ferber said. “We have developed a trust for each other that really does allow us to do better and make sure we’re all pushing ourselves.”
This team dynamic proved itself in a recent game against Nerinx Hall from St. Louis April 22, in which the team won after a well fought effort. One notable event from this particular game was when freshman Rose Crowe scored a point and her team lifted her into the air with joy, a visible image of the strong bond between team members.
Ferber attributes some of this attitude to head coach Molly Crawford. She says that Crawford really helps motivate the team and get them on the right track. Crawford, for her part, says that she motivates the girls through some tough love.
“ I encourage them to always be and try their best. Not just in lacrosse, but in all facets of life,” Crawford said. “I do expect them to always push themselves to the best of their ability and we, as coaches, know when they are not.”
Other than motivation from their coach, Ferber says that the main reason why her team has done so well is the closeness they share with each other. Likening it to a “little family,” Ferber says that not only can they laugh and have a good time with each other, but they can also rely on each other when they need to, something she says has played a big role in the team’s overall success.
As for the future, Ferber says that their goals are to keep doing what they are doing; continuing to play hard and win. They hope to win their city championship trophy again, and go to state.
“Our goals are just to push ourselves as hard as we can, and do our best,” Ferber said.
