Field Day Festivities

Seniors and freshmen enjoy a day full of fun and bonding as their first week of high school comes to a close.

The school was loud. It was filled with laughter, as usual, but this time it was different. Girls packed into the gym, clustered together and belted their favorite songs. Jump ropes were flying, volleyballs were thrown into the air and dance-battles were fought. This noise carried through the hall and onto the field. The crash of a small wave, a splash and laughter consumed the track. No, this is not paradise, but it’s close.

Seniors, freshmen and faculty enjoyed a sunny field day Aug. 26. This was a time for seniors in each maison to get to know their freshmen. However, it was also a time for seniors to enjoy each other as their final year begins and for freshmen to build relationships with each other as they begin their journey together. Senior Maria Arroyo said she enjoyed the time she got to spend with her senior friends as well as her new freshmen friends.

“It was really fun because they didn’t force us to stay with our maisons,” Arroyo said. “We could hang out and bond with all the freshmen, not just the ones in our maison.”

Throughout the afternoon there were various activities to do inside and outside as well as a surprise visit by the fire department at the end of the day. Athletic Director Sarah Johnson said this year’s field day was just as fun as last years but this year it was different because of all the events planned.

“Inside we had Pound, we had the post-it note high jump, and then we had the locker picture frames with pictures,” Johnson said. “Outside we had the shot-put, the sack relays, tug of war, and the super slide. We had a little dance party, and popsicles and the fire department came to spray all the girls down.”
