Trump Takes Control

Donald Trump is the next President of the United States.

Republican Candidate Donald Trump wins the 2016 Presidential Election with 276 electoral votes in comparison to Democratic Candidate Hillary Clinton’s 218 electoral votes. Though Trump won the majority of electoral votes, Clinton is 151,119 votes ahead of Trump in the popular vote with 98 percent of the votes reported, according to the Associated Press.

Locally, Trump dominated the polls winning 51.7 percent of the popular votes in Missouri and 57.5 percent in Kansas  Trump also won all 10 of Missouri’s and Kansas’s 6 electoral votes.

Both Missouri and Kansas featured tight Senate races that both ended with Republican wins. In Missouri, Republican Party Candidate Roy Blunt came out on top with 49.4 percent of the votes against Democratic Party Candidate Jason Kander who ended up with 46.2 percent of the votes. In Kansas, Republican Party Candidate Jerry Moran won with 62.7 percent of the votes.         

The gubernatorial race in Missouri ended with another Republican win. Eric Greitens defeated Democrat Chris Koster with 51.3 percent of the vote.

Overall, the Republican Party came out on top winning the race for president and majorities in the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives.

After Trump’s victory was announced, Trump gave a victory speech in which he presented a message of unity.   

Now it is time for America to bind the wounds of division; have to get together,” Trump said in his acceptance speech. “To all Republicans and Democrats and Independents across this nation, I say it is time for us to come together as one united people.”

Clinton failed to give a concession speech after her defeat, but addressed the public at 10:10 a.m.
