The auditions for Night of One Acts, the annual student-led production showcasing improvisation and short one-act plays, are Sept. 4 from 3:45 p.m.until 5:30 p.m. in the music room. The show is led by seniors Peyton Wade and Hannah Sue Kennish with help from theatre tech teacher Maggie Killian. 

“I was going to try directing, just because I’ve been in so many shows,” Wade said. “I’ve never been in a position where I get to tell people what I think.”

Stepping into a new set of shoes as directors, Wade and Kennish get to be the ones making the calls. Both Wade and Kennish have been on the other side before, Wade as an actress and Kennish as a crew member helping previous director alumna Jordan Harrison. Having directors that have worked as crew and an actress will allow both skillsets to shine.

“I also think it teaches our students some acting skills,” Killian said. “It’s a very low-risk kind of place.”

Night of One Acts is a way for students interested in theater and on-stage acting to get a taste of it without committing to the late-night dress rehearsals and practices that come along with participating in the musical and play. Students with any background experience are welcome. Night of One Acts’ goal is to introduce people to the stage in a mild setting, according to Kennish.

“It’s just another way to get involved outside the musical or play,” Kennish said. “It is a smaller cast, so it means it is more intimate in rehearsals to get more critical feedback.”
