Helping friends and loved ones through mental illness and periods of struggle is hard, but there is some advice to help with it.
There are 10 common warning signs to look for when checking to see if someone you know has a mental illness including feeling sad or withdrawn for more than two weeks or having drastic changes in mood or behavior, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Aside from knowing these 10 common warning signs, you can also help friends by starting the conversation with them, offering them support and getting advice from professionals on how to help, according to NAMI. When all else fails and if you think someone is is serious danger, or needs more help than you can give them, the best thing to do for them is to go talk to an adult or professional about getting the person the professional help they need, according to counselor Erika Ellwanger.
