Prom’s New Look
A makeover will be given to Prom for this year’s event 28.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, prom has been rescheduled to June 13. The venue of Prariefire will remain the same. Principal Natalie McDonough announced the change in Friday’s Sion Weekly.
The annual prom has changed location to Prairiefire Museum, will no longer have dinner, will decrease to $35, and will be from 7 to 9 p.m. for this year’s dance.
Due to feedback from the senior class based on last year’s prom, tweaks have been made to provide a night that caters to everyone’s approval. Prom Committee decided to change venues from the Sheraton to Prairiefire Museum after receiving notice that dinner was no longer wanted at prom.
“The new location is really exciting because I can’t wait to see how the new changes play out and affect the dance,” junior Katelyn Brinkman said.
Students are given the freedom to take pictures and eat dinner wherever they choose before the dance. An assortment of desserts such as cheesecake or layered cake will be present at the dance for the prom attendees to eat.
“I’m glad that we have the option to eat dinner wherever we would like because then you can order what you want instead of being served a set menu at the Sheraton,” Brinkman said.
The dance price dropped from $75 per person last year to $35 per person because dinner will not be served. Since there will be no dinner at the dance, the dance will start later. The doors will open for arrival at 7 and will close at 7:30. Prom queen coordination will be announced at 7:45. The dance officially ends at 9, but the doors will open for early dismissal at 8:30. Last year’s prom was set from 6:30 to 10.
“Prom is such a special experience, we wouldn’t want anyone to not be able to participate because of financial concerns,” Prom advisor April Schendel said.
The Prom Committee decided on the theme of Fire and Ice for the dance. The theme was announced through the invitations given out to the junior and senior classes. The committee will decorate the museum accordingly to the theme this year, Fire and Ice. Along with preparing the theme, Prom Committee works to set up and make sure the dance runs smoothly for the student body to enjoy.
“Prom committee wanted this theme to set a bar at a new place,” prom chair junior Mikayla Gunther said. “It will be super cool cause the venue matches the theme.”
Registration for prom opened Monday, March 9. Students can register here. The registration deadline is Wednesday, March 11.
“I’m so excited to see it all come life and it will be a great dance with all the work we’ve put into it,” Gunther said.
