Taking precautions against the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19, classes will switch to virtual-learning for the two weeks following Spring Break.

In an email sent to students and parents, high school president Alicia Kotarba announced the closing of school until April 6. During this period, the school will undergo deep cleaning and disinfecting, according to Kotarba.

Online-classes are set to begin Tuesday, March 24. Teachers and faculty are scheduled to meet virtually Monday, March 23 to make any last-minute preparations, according to Kotarba. Principal Natalie McDonough will release further information on plans for online-learning communication in the coming week.

McDonough alerted students of the possibility of virtual-learning Thursday, March 12 during the reconciliation service. All students were instructed to bring home any necessary learning materials in case of school closure. If students were unable to bring home their supplies Thursday, they can contact McDonough to make arrangements to pick up those materials.

Prom, originally scheduled for March 28, will proceed to be postponed to the back-up date of May 8. The location of Prarie Fire will remain the same, according to McDonough.

As information surrounding COVID-19 progresses rapidly, the school will continue to monitor the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, local health organizations and city leaders in regards to any further action, according to McDonough.
