The Sion community celebrated the annual father daughter dance at Fiorella’s Venue and Event Space January 26.
The event started at 6pm, where students and their fathers could mingle and have professional photos taken together. Afterward they enjoyed a family-style meal catered by Jack Stack.
Seniors and their fathers then kicked off the festivities with the traditional serenade.
The girls sang “Stand By Me”, by Ben E King, to their fathers first, a song they voted on as a class shortly before the event.
“I picked out the songs by thinking about what really spoke about us all,” senior class president Sarah Lillis said. “I thought our choice ‘Stand by Me’ was super meaningful since we want our dads to stand by us even when we are away.”
Afterwards, the fathers gave their daughters white roses and sang “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan.
They also surprised the girls with a second song, “We go together” from Greece, which began the dancing for the night.
“I saw some girls crying and I also saw some dads crying,” Lillis said. “It made the night really special.”
