Kindness Club
Kindness Club was founded by junior Ava Wickenhauser in order to create a positive environment and welcome people to Sion with different acts of kindness. The Kindness Club had their first meeting on Aug. 28. Wickenhauser has numerous goals for this club and hopes to accomplish as many as she can.
“An idea I have for my club is to do service outside of Sion. I plan to execute that by doing outside of school volunteering once a month,” Wickenhauser said. “Another goal that I have is to bring more positivity and kindness to Sion so I’m going to do that by creating kindness activities and little fundraisers that we can do at Sion.”
Sion Girls on the Mic
Sion Girls on the Mic was founded by sophomores Raven Silvers and Addison Porter to talk about all that they felt should be discussed whether it be fun or serious topics.
“Every now and then we should talk about stuff that’s a little bit harder to talk about. Not everything in life is fun, so sometimes we have to talk about serious stuff and kind of put that out there in the world for people. Say they don’t know what’s going on in the war with Gaza and Hamas, then we need to cover it. Not everyone is going to listen, not everyone is going to watch the news,” said Silver. “And the podcast is for people, especially from Sion, to actually listen to it because everyone goes to Sion’s Tik Tok and Instagram, they’ll definitely listen to this.”
Their first meeting was on Sept. 4, but the club originally had its debut during the Sion podcast Deep Dive in the Spring of 2024. A group of participants went to publications advisor Val Crook’s room and into the podcast room and recorded 3 or 4 episodes. Silvers and Porter had the idea to create a podcast before the Deep Dive and decided that it would be a good idea to be a part of the deep dive before making this club. Silver also talks about how English teacher Erin Hamer-Beck helped get the club started and was a key factor to the founding of this club.
“We plan on having every member of our club have their own job to do. No one should be excluded from anything whether they’re writing some script for the podcast, writing ideas or finding places to go, everyone has a job and we don’t want anyone to feel left out. We want to cover a bunch of different topics, have a good amount of podcasts out maybe every 2 to 3 weeks and we want to have it put out there not just for people in sion but for people in the KCMO area also” said Silvers.
