Florida has recently been devastated by Hurricane Milton and is still reeling from the impact of the storm. People there are in a dire situation due to widespread flooding and storm damage, and many are in need of medical assistance. Because of the storms, blood collection centers all across the southeastern states have been closed. This has caused a blood shortage, but the CBC is stepping up to help deliver blood to those in need.
All around the Kansas City area, blood donation sites have been set up that are sending blood to hospitals with hurricane victims. Blood donations are crucial for these hospitals so they can focus on saving lives instead of rationing their blood supplies.
“This has been one of the most devastating hurricane seasons we have seen in years,” Community Blood Center Executive Director Jennifer Kaluza said to FOX4 Kansas City, “and a robust blood supply is essential for disaster preparedness and our country’s overall public health.”
