Oct. 31: Storm Stomp
Storm Stomp is a school-wide fundraiser raising money for student scholarships. Students are invited to fundraise $35 each for the opportunity to dress up for Halloween and take to the basketball courts for some games of three-on-three basketball or knockout. This year, Storm Stomp will be held during a modified full schedule beginning at 1:30 p.m.
“We have been working on it since early summer and I’m so glad to see everything come to life,” Storm Stomp co-chair Vivian Kuntz said. “I hope everyone has a fun time whether they are just cheering people on or playing. We have so many fun prizes, great food and it’s Halloween so everyone will be dressed up.”
Oct. 25 – Nov 15: Socktoberfest
Socktoberfest is a new event this year combining Sock it To Poverty and Food for Thought, two classic Sion charity drives collecting non-perishable food items, socks, and underwear. This event will run for 20 days. This year, the goal is five tons of cans and five dozen pairs of socks. At the end of the drive on Nov. 14, Student Council will host the fall pep assembly including Socktoberfest inspired skits.
“We communicated with Redemptorist on what their needs were and adjusted the goals and what we’re asking for. So this year we’re gonna have more specific examples of what donations we’re looking for,” Student Body President president Addi Bowes said. “I’m feeling pretty optimistic about it just because the goal is technically a little lower than it has been before, but I definitely think it’s achievable.”
Nov. 5-7: Kairos
Kairos is a retreat for Seniors and Juniors that lasts three days. For these three days, participants are separated from their screens and technology and encouraged to bond and reflect.
“Kairos is a beautiful retreat where students are able to get away from the busyness of life, really be in God’s time and not spend the whole week worrying, but really meeting our needs, like physically, mentally, emotionally,” campus minister Maria Milazzo said. “And students will get to reflect maybe on a deeper meaning with their classmates.”
Nov. 21: Fall Concert
The Sion music department holds two recitals a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. The concert features Sion’s choir, symphony and drumline. The concert will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Sion gym. This year, the concert is themed after the four seasons and will include musical compositions based on each season. A new element will also be introduced at this concert: food.
“This year, the theme is ‘A Taste of the Four Seasons,’ and so we’re actually going to have all four seasons represented as a little snack or a drink,” Elizabeth Mulkey, Director of Visual & Performing Arts, said. “I thought it would be fun to do something different, right? So I don’t know exactly what yet, but the thought is to do like little treats.”
