Excitement Comes with Announcement of ‘High School Musical 4’
A classic Disney Channel movie, “High School Musical” will be created for the fourth time, bringing excitement to new and old fans of the movie.
Stop the presses people. My Disney Channel childhood dreams are coming true. The East High Wildcats will reunite in a fourth installment of “High School Musical” according to Disney Channel president Gary Marsh who made the announcement on March 1. Yes, you heard that correct, the Wildcats are back at it again.
All your (and my) hopes and prayers that Troy Bolton, Gabriella Montez and Sharpay and Ryan Evans will come together again have finally been answered.
Ever since seeing the third movie back when I was eight, my hopes for a fourth movie had been low for I remember thinking that Troy and Gabriella were too busy off doing “grownup things” like being in college and making their way through the world.
I retired my “High School Musical” soundtracks, tucked away my posters of the dreamy Troy Bolton and reminisced on the memories East High gave me.
Disney Channel understood my pain at the time and released “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure” later in 2011. But I wasn’t satisfied. I needed more. Where was the rest of the East High crew? Where are the break out music numbers in the cafeteria? The singing basketball players?
Marsh explained in a statement that the High School Musical franchise is a critical part of Disney Channel and the movie is everything they, as a company, represent.
That couldn’t be any more accurate. Immediately following the success of the first movie, merchandise was made and quickly sold off the shelves as Wildcat mania overtook many. There was even a High School Musical on Ice (that I sadly didn’t get to go to). According to fortune.com, about $1 billion was made in operating profit for Disney from the movie in 2006 and 2007. That fact alone proves the significance of this franchise.
However, what is more important, is that I can finally relive my glory days of singing to “We’re All in This Together” into my hairbrush doing my best Sharpay impersonation.
My hopes are incredibly high for the newest addition to the collection of “High School Musical” movies for it isn’t just any regular Disney Channel movie. It has lasted on for years, trickling down to today’s seven year olds as they witness the magic it holds.
There is no definite premiere date but in the meantime I will be catching up on the happenings at East High by re-watching all the old movies. You better getcha’ head in the game for this is definitely the start of something new.
