iPhone Release Raises Question of Always Wanting More
The announcement of the new iPhone 7 brings up the issue of never being satisfied with what we have.
While many technology lovers are falling asleep with dreams of waterproof phones and high definition cameras dancing in their heads, people like me who just saved up enough money and splurged on the iPhone 6 are questioning if the recently announced iPhone 7 is worth it. At what point do people need to stop and realize that it’s okay to not have the nicest, newest technology and fashion trends?
This $600 billion dollar company knows what it’s doing and knows how to play consumers. With Apple’s strategic release of new models of the iPhone every year and its addition of just enough new features to make people feel like they can’t live without it, they have thousands of people hooked on the new phone already. With new features such as the improved battery life, a faster processing system, better camera quality and water resistance, Apple fans all over are dying to get their hands on the iPhone 7. This means the quick throw away of their current iPhones because they just won’t “do” anymore.
This mindset of never being satisfied is one that can be applied to much more than just iPhones and technology but parallels other things like the latest fall fashion trends people “need” in their closet.
I know I’m not the first person to get caught up in thinking that I need new clothes. Shopping online with a credit card I especially seem to forget that I just spent my whole week’s paycheck from my minimum wage job on an order from Sephora.
While being passionate about technology and fashion is great, and getting new things is fun, sometimes people need a reality check to realize how lucky they are. It’s so easy to forget about the bubble people live in, causing them to forget to the big picture. They need to realize that it’s okay to not always have the newest generation iPhone or that trendiest eyeshadow palette.
