A week before Halloween, and all you can hear in the halls is the murmur of “what are you wearing for Halloween?” During class students are frantically shopping on Amazon to see what will arrive in time. But of course, we all have that one friend who has been raving about their incredible Halloween costume that they’ve been planning since last year. It’s a DIY, one-of-a-kind outfit that has never been seen before.
Now let’s be real, the majority of us don’t think that far in advance as to what we’re wearing for Halloween. And for those who do, well, you either love Halloween or have too much time on your hands. So how early is too early to purchase your Halloween costume?
While it may seem smart to pick out your outfit months in advance and leave all the stress of delayed shipping behind, it might not be the smartest decision. By picking out your outfit too early, you run the risk of disliking it by the time October comes around and wanting to buy something even better, but you can’t because you already picked out a costume.
So many things could happen within the span of a couple of months. Maybe the costume won’t fit right anymore, or perhaps a troop of aliens will take over the world and now your super cute alien costume is seen as rude to your extraterrestrial counterpart. Boom, that is how one early Halloween costume led to you being zapped out of existence.
As unlikely as an alien takeover is, there is a possibility that ordering an outfit too early can backfire. On the other hand, I’m sure many of us have experienced the opposite, ordering an outfit too late. Halloween is the next day and your Amazon package got delayed so now you are stuck digging through your childhood dress-up clothes trying to find a cute costume.
So where is the middle ground? I would recommend looking at Halloween costumes anywhere from August to mid-October. Unless, of course, you are making it yourself, in which case allow for more time.
Picking out a Halloween costume is supposed to be fun, not stressful. As we approach Halloween, it’s time to grab your friends and start planning.
If you need some inspiration, here are my predictions for the top three Halloween costumes in 2023.
After the hit Barbie movie over the summer, I guarantee women young and old will be dressing up in Margot Robbie’s iconic cowgirl look. It’s giving coastal cowgirl and Barbiecore all at once.
Another movie-inspired costume comes from the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, featuring Halle Bailey. Fan favorite Ariel got a new look over the summer while still keeping her most well-known features. You can’t go wrong with a purple top and an iridescent skirt.
For this year’s Halloween, I want to see a Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce duo. Rock the 87 with one of Taylor’s iconic outfits perhaps from her lover era. Unless of course, you want to match Kelce’s red with Taylors Red era.
