The New Cookie Craze in KC: Review of Cookie Co.

The original Cookie Co. was founded in May 2020 in California, and defied all odds of success during the Covid 19 pandemic. The business was started by married couple Elise and Matt Thomas, and they ensured they put in the work to make their business thrive. They hand delivered cookies weekly and initiated a process of releasing four flavors a week (now six), similar to the famous Crumbl. Cookie Co. also has a twisted soda menu with unique soda flavors. The new Overland Park franchise opened May 20th by Jordan and Linsey Devey, a local Kansas City family. On my visit I tried two of their cookies,

The first cookie I tried was the Frosted Sugar cookie. This is always an option despite the weekly flavors. The size of the cookies are slightly smaller than Crumbl and the level of sugar is also not as much. The base itself was thick and tasted homemade. The frosting was the perfect amount of sweet and it had a simple presentation. Although it was a basic cookie flavor, I really loved the taste and size of this Frosted Sugar cookie.

The first cookie I tried was a new flavor of the week, the Drumstick cookie. This is a sugar cookie base with waffle cone chunks, vanilla frosting, chocolate drizzle, and a peanut topping. This cookie looks very appetizing and smells like a real Drumstick ice cream. I really enjoyed the combination of flavors and the presentation of the cookie. Although I thought the waffle cone chunks added an interesting texture to the cookie, it was overall very good.

I did not try any of the twisted sodas, but I plan on trying one soon. You pick one of these popular soda bases: Coke (Diet), Dr.Pepper (Diet), Sprite, and Root Beer. Then you get to pick your flavor combo: The Boulevard (coconut and freshly squeezed lime), Sunset (raspberry, peach, and vanilla), Citrus (fresh squeezed lime and orange), Stuart Ave. (pineapple and coco cream), Orange Street (orange and vanilla), Highway 38 (english toffee and heavy cream), and Smiley (cherry, whipped cream, and maraschino cherry). These combos are $3.50 for a medium and $4 for a large.
