At some point, all students will find themselves with a free period. This could be a class they’ve finished all their work in, an AP that’s already taken their end-of-year exam or a study hall after a quiz. The following are my suggestions for the best collections of uncomplicated and endlessly replayable computer games.
AARP Games
This is a bit of an obscure pick because most people have never heard of this game website, but I love AARP Games. There are over a hundred games on this website, but some of my favorites are the Daily Sudoku, the Daily Diagonal Sudoku, 8 Ball Pool, the Daily Crossword and Block Champ. This website is full of unique and exciting games and I’m sure you’ll find the perfect game to cure your boredom here. The only downside of this website is that there are lots of ads and the website itself is poorly designed, but in the grand scheme of things that is a non-issue.
Google games
The Google games are the perfect short games for when you don’t want to play something with too much commitment, but that you can play over and over again when you have a lot of time on your hands. Some of my favorite Google games are Minesweeper, Solitaire and Snake. They’re easy to learn and fun to play, and that’s exactly how a computer game should be.
New York Times Daily Puzzles
I love the New York Times puzzles, specifically Connections and Strands. However, it annoys me that there is a limited variety of games on this website and that you can only play certain games one time per day. Also, every other day the Connections makes the most infuriating connection between words that would only fit together by sheer force in the real world. They’re stretching it a little too far most of the time with Connections.
Papa’s games
By far the most well-known internet games are the various Papa’s games. My two favorites are Papa’s Sushiria and Papa’s Donuteria, but really all of them are great. The only downsides of the Papa’s games are that they take a really long time and you risk losing your progress every time you exit the game. Some of them are unnecessarily hard, but other than that I think Papa’s games are a great option when you have extra time on your hands.
Google Doodles
My fifth favorite computer game collection is the Google Doodles. Google Doodles are daily drawings or games that occasionally pop up on the Google homepage, and they’re usually themed around current events or holidays. I love some of the older ones like Lotería and Cricket, but there isn’t much selection and some of them are really difficult. Sometimes they can be hard to find, which is why they ended up in last place.
