While her mother Pam Kearney looks on, senior Meghan Kearney officially signs to run track and cross country with Drake University

Deals made. Papers signed. Futures guaranteed. Four seniors,  Meghan Kearney, Anna Romano, Michaela Henne and Jenna Bolton, are signing with four different colleges to play collegiate athletics.

Kearney signed with Drake University to run cross country and track. Bolton signed with Pittsburg State University for softball and Michaela Henne signed with Creighton University for tennis.

The fourth senior, Anna Romano, will sign later in the spring time with Benedictine College for soccer.

But on Nov. 12, the other three seniors signed in the Sion gym to finally seal the deal with their new schools.

At the signings, friends and family gathered to support the girls. In addition, former coaches also attended. As each coach stepped up to tell stories of their time with the girls, Kearney, Henne and Bolton all blushed from the compliments showered upon them.

One by one they signed their contracts to play collegiate sports. After they have all signed, they rushed towards their friends and were congratulated by everyone around them. It’s finally over and they can all say that they are relieved to know where they’re going and that the rest of the year will be a smooth ride.

While on their official visits, Kearney, Henne and Romano all fell in love with the schools and are filled with excitement because of their admiration for the colleges they plan on attending.

“Just going there and interacting with the athletes and the girls just made me want to go there and be a part of the new family,” Kearney said.

Bolton chose Pittsburg State because of the academic strides she plans to take as well as her love of softball.

“The biggest part of it is I want to major in nursing. And after two years of nursing you have to go into clinicals. And the coach agreed to work with me and allow me to go to the clinicals,” Bolton said.

Referring to the pressures of the season, Kearney said it does add pressure for academics. But in the end she knows she is ready to work hard.
