The basketball season kicked off Nov. 18 with the annual purple and white game in the gym. Each team was composed of both varsity and JV players, hand-selected by interim Head Coach Kate Pilgreen. The game concluded with a white victory and a final score of 22-21.

Parents, faculty and students gathered in the bleachers to support both teams with white known as the “marshmallows” and purple nicknamed the “grapes.”  Pilgreen coached the white team and Junior Varsity coach Laura Carter coached purple.

“The game is more about showing to the community and the parents what we’ve been working on as a team,” Pilgreen said. “It’s also meant to get everyone excited for the rest of the season.”

According to Pilgreen, the entire team is highly competitive and driven.

“[The game] is always fun, but intense at the same time because we’re playing against each other,” varsity player junior Afton Fennewald said. “It always helps us figure out what we need to focus on as a team.”

Pilgreen said the game allowed her to see specifically what the team still needs to improve on. Overall, she was pleased with how aggressively and competitively both teams performed.

“I’m hoping we get past districts this year and beat St. Teresa’s,” varsity player sophomore Molly Wagner said. “[I’m] mostly looking forward to team bonding and those long bus rides.”
