The Varsity Basketball team fell 33-47 to Center High School in the District Championships.

The Varsity Basketball team ended the District Championship, and their last game of the season, with a loss to Center High School Saturday March 4. The team won 58-22 against Van Horn High School on Tuesday, and 44-41 against Lincoln Prep Academy on Friday.

During the District Championship game, Center’s team size played a role in varsity’s loss. The team ultimately wasn’t able to make a comeback after they fell behind, losing the game 33-47.

“Compared to the other games throughout the season, [the team] played really hard,” senior Madeline Dercher said.

For the four senior players Abby Smith, Chloe Long, Marie Orrick and Dercher, the Center game marked their last basketball game at Sion. According to Dercher, the game was more emotional than most because it marked an ending to her Sion basketball career.

“It was sad to think that it was the last time I’d be playing with my teammates,” Dercher said. “My team is my family and they mean so much to me.”

Although the season is over, freshman Anaiya Uhde is already looking forward to what the team can accomplish next year.

“I believe that next season will be a great season because I’ve gotten more comfortable on this team,” Uhde said. “I feel like this season has helped [the entire team] grow and our basketball IQ’s got better.”
