Storm basketball kicked off the season Nov. 10 with its annual purple and white scrimmage in the gym.  The two teams composed of Junior Varsity and Varsity players were picked by head coach Kate Pilgreen.  At the end of the second 10-minute half, the purple team was victorious. The purpose of the scrimmage is to prepare the team for the season and practice their plays in a realistic setting.

“[Purple and white] is a fun way to get them up and down the floor, it’s different than practice everyday, and they have a little competition,” Pilgreen said.

Pilgreen coached the white team, “the marshmallows” and Varsity assistant coach Bree Kisner coached the purple team, “the grapes.”

“It’s a way to get comfortable together and get our plays down and build some team chemistry before the season officially starts,” senior and Varsity co-captain Sarah Totta said.

The first official game of the season will be played against the St. Teresa’s Academy Stars Nov. 17 at home.  The team is optimistic that the practice from their scrimmage will be beneficial for the rivalry game and into the rest of the season.

“I think it’s good to play against each other in the beginning to see where we are at and to build our teamwork and get to know each other and how we play before we play St. Teresa’s,” freshman and JV player Gabby Gaither said.
