Cheer Takes on Nationals
Cheer will compete in the National competition in Dallas.
Cheer arrived to Nationals in Dallas, Texas Friday, Jan. 31 to perform in their two-day competition. Cheer will be competing in the Game Day Division, performing three separate routines Saturday, Feb. 1, and compiling them all together for one three-minute routine Sunday, Feb. 2.
“It being my senior year, I am very excited to see how we do,” senior Rachel McRae said. “It’s a really memorable time and you get close to your teammates.”
Cheer team will be judged for their individual performances along with their combined routine. Award announcements are held Sunday afternoon.
“I am a bit nervous for nationals,” sophomore Maggie Carpenter said. “It’s my first year competing and we will see how it goes.”
The competitions are held by the National Cheerleading Association, for all high school cheer teams wanting to come and participate. Sion cheer has participated for many years, taking a bus there and back for a team trip. Head Coach Tabby McCarthy said she is eager to see the team’s growth during their performance.
“I am very proud of the whole team and how much we have improved,” McCarthy said. “I’m excited for my girls.”
