Varsity basketball beat Shawnee Mission North in a close game on Feb. 4 after a steadily tied game. The five seniors, Hannah Borgmeyer, Shannon Karlin, Olivia Shively, Katelyn Brinkman, and Olivia Pope shone extra brightly as it was senior night at the home game.

Following the sentimental senior night festivities, the game started at 6 p.m. and was a close game in the first half. The Storm went into halftime winning, but with a difference of less than five points. One of the basketball managers, senior Sharon Kramschuster, said this made the game especially exciting despite the stress of the first half being so close.

“It was exciting because each team was scoring and we kept tying it up,” Kramschuster said, “and then at the end we just brought it together for the win.”

After halftime, the Storm came out determined to fight for the win and pick up their defense to allow more time and opportunities to get further ahead, according to Coach Chad Lynn. Throughout the fourth quarter, Shawnee Mission North was trailing by at least five points and the Storm could see the win becoming probable.

“It was a good hard fought game,” Lynn said. “Our defense came out and we kept them to five points in the second half, so they made really good adjustments.”

Even though the only people allowed in the gym had to have gotten a ticket from one of the athletes, it was a well attended game with the bleachers filled with parents and supporting students, all socially distanced. Senior Shannon Karlin was grateful and appreciative of all the people that attended to support them and make it a special and memorable night.
