Monday, Sept. 30 was the first shadow day of the year and there were a total of nine shadows with 38 shadows in total throughout the whole first week. Sion is expecting to host over 200 shadows this year! Shadows can request certain students that they already know to be their hostesses, and those are occasionally sophomores or even upperclassmen. This first week Sion had 7 of the 38 shadows shadow sophomores or above.
“The shadows arrived on campus and received a free beverage from Vive Cafe. The parents and students received a presentation from Ms. Carmody then the students attended classes 2-6 with their shadow hostess. They then received a short tour from upperclasswomen and then departed with a Sion goody bag at 3:00 pm.” Glatz said.
The shadows also have an entertaining study hall created by Si
on’s STUCO. The hosts take their shadows down to the gym and stay there for study hall. Sion always has something different planned and makes it to where the shadows and host both are able to participate.
“It could range from Just Dance to blindfolded musical chairs to making cards for our friends in the retirement home when the holidays come around,” Glatz said.
Freshman Madeline Bridges hosted her first shadow on Monday. Bridges hosted eighth grader Meryn Dobbleare who currently goes to Ascension Catholic School. “It was definitely different, especially being kind of new to the school myself. I get lost already so it was different having someone that I was showing around.” said Bridges.
“I think it was stressful trying to make sure they felt welcome, because they don’t know anyone, and they don’t have friends themselves yet, so I was just trying to make sure that they feel integrated and don’t ever feel awkward sitting in class,” Bridges said.
. “I really love the Class of 2028 They have so much energy and are excited to help me recruit the Sion Class of 2029,” Glatz said.
