Grateful for Globetrotting

She will have traversed 14,500 miles, and two continents just over three Summer Breaks alone.  Frances Evans is a true Globetrotter.

Last Summer, Evans spent three months in Madrid, Spain.  She took Spanish classes and became more acquainted with the Spanish culture and history during her stay. According to Evans, Madrid is her favorite city in the world.  There are so many great places to visit from La Plaza del Sol to the oldest Restaurant in the world. Furthermore, there is a bevy of people from countries all over the globe.  Not only is Madrid the capital of Spain, but it is also an international hub.

“Frances has gained such a huge awareness of different cultures,” Evans’ sister Georgia Evans said. “As well as the way people live their lives in comparison to their own.”

The allure of the Spanish culture from the openness to the exciting cuisine was so great that Evans will spend this upcoming Summer in yet another Spanish-speaking country. Chile.

Evans is grateful for the opportunities that she’s had.  Luckily, her father is the Chilean Consul for Kansas City. Throughout the years he’s made several acquaintances with Chilean families.

“I’m excited to see a different part of the world, a place I’ve never been before,” Evans said.

Evans will stay with a family in Rancuagua, Chile. Rancuagua is a beautiful city located in the northern mountainous region of the country, only an hour away from St. George’s in Santiago. Sightseeing, hiking and skiing are just a few of the activities that Rancuagua lends itself to.

“I really love travelling. Learning different languages and cultures is an opportunity that many should have the chance to experience,” Evans said.

Evans’ international travels began when she was in eighth grade.  She spent her summer in Zaragosa Spain with family friends.  Whether in Spain or Chile, Evans knows she’ll enjoy herself.  Her goal is to become bilingual and after mastering Spanish, she hopes to pick up French or Italian.

“I think people get really wrapped up in Kansas City and America,” Evans said.  “But there are so many other places to experience.”
