Growing up in the customer service and fashion industries, junior Addie Doyle has experienced the business world for as long as she can remember. Her mom Megan Doyle owns a boutique located in Leawood, Kansas called Addie Rose, named after Addie. Megan started the boutique in what would have been her fifth year of college, on top of juggling being a new mom. As Addie has helped throughout her mom’s boutique throughout her whole life whether its helping with events, creating marketing posts, or helping pick new clothes.
“I feel like we work off each other because we both love the store so much,” Addie said. “And that pushes us to grow Addie Rose.”
Customer service is key to working in the fashion and retail industry. You never want to be in a boutique where the vibe is cold and none of the employees are helping you find what you need. This is one of the most important aspects in working in retail and making the customer feel wanted, according to Addie.

“When we train people we say that being friendly and helpful is the most important thing,” Addie said. “We don’t push customers to buy something we don’t think they’ll love, we help them find what makes them feel most confident.”
Addie hasn’t always worked for her mom, but has worked other jobs, too. From working for her mom for so long, Addie got used to not having much pressure on her because it wouldn’t be a boss yelling at her, it would be her mom. But as she has worked under different bosses, her perspective changed as an employee.
“I have worked multiple jobs with different bosses, but working for my mom is definitely a different experience,” Addie said. “When I first started solo shifts, I didn’t feel pressured because it wouldn’t be a boss yelling at me, but my mom.”
Working for her mom has created a special connection between her and her mom through spending time as a family or spending time in a professional setting.
“This store has helped support my family and it’s a display of my family’s hard work, so I feel like I try and put extra effort into every shift to do my part,” Addie said. “I also think working with my mom has made her my best friend. We talk about our experiences at the store, what steps to take, and just really everything.”
